Pepping up Public Spaces and Reimagining the City with Design

#ddPlace will continue to sprinkle creativity across Wan Chai, connecting the community and activating public spaces with design.

The project has lined up a range of creative groups based in Wan Chai and other districts to set up creative works at different spots in the area over varying display periods. The works bring together design disciplines such as architecture and interior design, graphic design, industrial and furniture design, visual communications and design education. The creations are turning Wan Chai’s public spaces into an exciting playground and an open-air design district gallery, where the unusual side of Hong Kong can be explored.

A Love Letter to Wan Chai: Chapter 5

Hong Kong has always been a place where East meets West, using bilingual languages is part of Hong Kong’s local uniqueness.

#ddHK has invited 5 local typographic designers Adonian Chan, Choi Kim Hung, Mak Kai-hang, Renatus Wu and Calvin Kwok to design 5 sets of bilingual typography to represent Hong Kong’s unique characteristic of East meets West and to pay respect to the firemen of Hong Kong.

Fall in love with our city

Look up from your phones and look at what the city has to offer...We are grateful to have worked with Hong Kong Arts Centre and Hong Kong Art School to create 4 sets of Creative Paving, combining art creation & new wayfinding.

More exciting things will come your way from 1 December to March next year. We hope these interdisciplinary interventions can add more enjoyment to your daily life in the neighbourhood and create another layer of city experience.

curatorial statement

Design District Hong Kong (#ddHK) aims to illustrate an authentic culture that resonates with locals, and lead tourists on an in-depth tour of creativity to discover a different Hong Kong. For generations Hong Kong has been recognised as The Land of Hong Kong (香港地), a local nickname that not only hinted our collective culture and passion for the city, but also chronicled the blood, sweat and tears, if not memories of all HongKongers who helped shape the city throughout the ages. This project is, indeed, a love letter to the land of ours.
