The collection is inspired by “cyber protection”. It has two elements. For an industrial designer like Felix, Sham Shui Po is a place to buy electronic products and parts. It feels cyber just to be there so some electronic parts are used in the design, such as LED lights, etc. The second element is “protection”. Felix grew up in Sham Shui Po and his home used to be there. Being at home feels protected, so protection is used as an inspiration.
In conjunction with the designer's professional handbag designs, handbags, fabrics and electronics are fused together to create a series of original designs that echoes with Sham Shui Po and highlights the diverse characteristics of the markets in the district.
Felix Tai was born in 1988 and graduated from the Hong Kong Polytechnic University School of Design majoring in industrial and product design. He founded POMCH in collaboration with a university classmate in 2011. In 2014, their first store was opened at PMQ, Hong Kong. Retail points were also set up in different parts of Hong Kong later on. In addition to handbag design, he has also engaged in other creative disciplines, such as installation art, interior design, product design, graphic design, etc. He was awarded the Perspective Award, International E-waste Design Award and more. His award-winning designs have been exhibited around the world.
Founded in 2011, POMCH is a leather goods designer brand based in Hong Kong. The brand was started as a spin-off of a university project. It is a unique creation from the experiments of an industrial technology – vacuum forming.
The word “POMCH” simulates the punching sound of machines, which is sharp, strong and precise. It is coherent with the concept of “industrial essentials” – merges fundamental industrial elements and designs into fashion design to create unique yet elegant collections. The value of industrial design lies on creating wonderful relationships between humans and objects in terms of function, form and experience. We take inspiration from the forms of machine, production processes and industrial design philosophy to create products with unique forms and interesting experience.
POMCH’s products are unisexual with a strong sense of design and special shapes. It extracts the key features of industrial design and merge it into fashion items. It aims to create unique experience for customers through its products.
